We, OSARK (Ottoman Studies Congress), aim to protect the privacy of our Website’s ( visitors and the members applying the congress. We would like to provide detailed information about the data collected from registered users during their visit to our Website.

Visitors of our Website have limited access to our content. Those who want to attend the congress, get information about the presentations, and have full access to the content should register. Registered members have the chance to apply for a paper, panel or workshop.

We ask our users to provide their names, email addresses, postal addresses, and phone numbers during the registration. However, visitors may also visit our Website anonymously. We collect the mentioned personal data only with the consent of our visitors. Therefore, our visitors can always refuse to share their personal information. However, it is impossible to register to our Website, thus applying to the congress, if a visitor does not provide the asked information. We will not share personal data collected during registration and application processes with third parties.

According to the Law on the Protection of Personal Data (KKVK) no. 6698, the personal data shared with is obtained and recorded wholly or partly by automated means as well as non-automatedly as parts of any data recording system. For this reason, we may use the data for activities such as collection, storage, use, transfer and disclosure. All operations involving personal data within the scope of the KVKK constitute “processing of personal data.”

We use “cookies” to improve the user experience. Web browsers place cookies on their hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes track visitors’ information.   • To include participants and visitors in congress mailing lists

  • To inform the accepted applicants about the congress
  • To provide and/or support the access of accepted applicants to the congress venue.
  • To keep in touch with the presenters whose papers will be published in edited volumes
  • To respond to the participants’ service demands and provide better service.

We take security measures to prevent unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of visitors’ personal information, username, password, transaction information and the data stored on our Website. We keep visitors’ data on secure networks and accessed only by a limited number of people, who are required to keep this information confidential, with special access to our system.

The personal data such as credit card numbers and IBAN shared by the accepted participants during payments are subjected to the privacy policy of the intermediary institution. We do not have access to the relevant data in any terms. These organizations use various security measures to ensure payment security. Likewise, visitors’ browsing and interaction on any other Website, including payment instruments directed from our Website, is subject to that Website’s terms and policies.

We reserve the right to change the privacy policy without notifying our visitors. Changes to this policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
